A new Super Stop & Shop Hyannis will begin construction shortly on 12 Acres on Rt. 132. The last peice of an assemblage envisioned in 2001, the Victory Chapel parcel of 3.18 Acres, was conveyed 10 November 2011.
The consideration for the property was a newly constructed 42,500 SF Building which was built by Stop & Shop to the Church's specifications on 8 acres at 320 Kidds Hill and deeded to the Church simultaneously.
The other parcels which totalled 9+ acres had been purchased in 2008. They included the site of the Former Candle Factory, EB Marine and Shirdans Restaurant. Demolition will begin on the remaining buildings shortly. The new Super Stop & Shop Bldg. will be back to back with Toys Are Us.
Carey Commercial arranged the purchase of the parcels beginning in 2001. The time span required to obtain permits for the project was long partially because it was vulnerable to political interference until 2008 when it was approved by the Town Council, overturning their previous politically manipulated vote in 2005. |
